Biggest Fan Contest!

I have been playing and enjoying Adventure Quest for 11 years, since 2004, and I don't plan on quitting any time soon. I've been checking the daily updates on Thursday ever since I first started playing. I have gone through numerous jobs, colleges, girlfriends and a few unpleasant real life situations, but I have never quit playing AQ. I see this game as an escape from the problems life throws at you.

In 2006, I originally started creating Adventure Quest videos on Myspace and Spike. These videos were extremely short and were created merely to showcase a weapon's special attack, or showcasing the animation of a new armour to members of the official AE forums. Just one year later, I randomly felt like uploading a video to a new video website called Youtube. At the time, there weren't really any Adventure Quest videos on that site at all - maybe 10 at the most. I wanted to record myself reaching level 130 on an Adventurer and have a video memento of myself doing so. I did so, but then I deleted that video and re-made it into a video of me battling 5 tough enemies that you encounter at level 130. At this point in time, the video has received 747,848 views.
  
In 2007, you had to be a Guardian to battle against Wolfwing, so I spent about 10 months leveling up a Guardian account purely so I could battle against Wolfwing. I only had an Adventurer at the time and I didn't want to upgrade that account because I liked the challenge you got from being an Adventurer. I like the fact that you were deprived of some of the best items in the game. When I finally got a chance to battle Wolfwing, I got destroyed by him over and over and over, but I didn't give up. After about 2 months of studying nearly every item ever released, I came up with a winning strategy that involved using the Twilly guest and a healing weapon called BlackBones. The actual battle against Wolfwing took between 8 and 10 hours in total to finish. It takes a huge amount of dedication and commitment to spend so many hours to defeat just one opponent.

Black Friday

For Black Friday, Adventure Quest is offering 25% off of all of the Z-Token items.  It is a pity there is none that I really want to buy.  Guardian Dragon Armor looks quite interesting, but it won't be out until December.  Hopefully, the Black Friday sales are still going with that armor gets released. 

It is Tuesday and I haven't seen many good Black Friday offers yet. Amazon usually has a few good deals; that doesn't seem like the case this year.  I am mostly looks for decent books for a good price. Maybe I'll buy some cheap hand-held games if I see some good offers.

Ultra Krieger Blade *Smiley Face*

I will start updating this site more often; I know I have been neglecting this site. I am still getting around 40-60 visitors a day to this place, which is great. :D

 Did you know that this website is close to being 5 years old?  Wow, time flies.


As you know, in Adventure Quest, all Guardians are given a free Golden Gift Box each month. I wasted 4k tokens last month trying to get the Ultra Krieger Blade, and then, I finally got it with my monthly free Gift Box! This made me happy for a short while. :)

New Build and Videos.

 The END stat has been nerfed and it is now rendered as near useless.  As a result of this END nerf, I have untrained all my END.

 My old build was:

STR : 0
DEX: 200
INT: 0
END: 150
CHA: 200
LUCK: 200

My new build is:

STR : 200
DEX: 200
INT: 0
END: 0
CHA: 150
LUCK: 200
I will probably change my STR to 190 and my CHA to 160.  I am too lazy to do it at the moment. ^_^


Next month, I will be spending 4000 tokens to get some more of the Golden Gift Boxes. I will make a video if I get at least one of the new items. I may create a video about the new Knight class - it depends on how good it is and how video worthy the class is.

New video coming soon! New games!

I have finally finished all of the potion quests!  As you all know, these quests take FOREVER to complete. I put myself off doing these quest for far too long! At least now, I can buy any of the 6 potions, whenever I like - I just need to find an interesting way to showcase them in a video.  *scratches head*
I have a few video recordings of boss fights that I've accumulated over time.  I'll probably mash everything together into one video.

In other news: I've created a few more games for my secondary site: www.sonicblack.co.nr 
The games include: a new Angry Birds type game, and a Metal Sonic game!  

I am quite happy with the amount of traffic that site is getting at the moment. It's invigorating to get an increase of traffic to that site and to receive a bit of positive feedback. Yeah, it nothing do to with Adventure Quest, but I don't want to be a one-trick-pony that can only produce Adventure Quest videos. It's highly advised to evolve and try to be productive in other projects and ideas.  Be like Ponyta and evolve into Rapidash!

One day, when I get better at creating games, I want to make a story driven, RPG game. The game will be a single player game that you'll play in your web-browser.  The game with have no leveling, but you'll need to use tactics to win each fight.  Either that, or I'll try and create an anime style bullet-hell game.

Necromancer vs. Paladin War and Game Engine Update.

Game Engine Update:

You can now set your equipment before you initiate into battle.  You may think that this makes the stat LUCK useless, but it's really doesn't affect its usefulness at all.  Even if you can set your equipment before the battle commences, it doesn't necessarily mean that you will attack first; it just prevents your opponent hitting you with a cheap shot when you're wearing the wrong resistances.


Necromancer vs. Paladin War:


Necromancers won the first war in 2006 - can they pull off another victory? Well, we are currently winning.  And, no, I didn't jump on the Necromancer bandwagon because they're winning -  I decided to aid the Necromancers long before the war started.  That, and the selfish reason of wanting to see the Necromancer Class being revamped.  A win in this war could make this revamp come quicker.

Breath of the Ice Lord:


New to the Frostval shop!  This is apparently the best ice spell in the game! I am not a Mage, so I haven't bought it or tested it.  From looking at the stats, it is pretty evident that it's the best ice spell.

Lucretia's Potions, Witch Waster and Witch Hunter

 Another melee water weapon?  *groans immensely*

We are already over-saturated with melee water weapons. Here's a few level 150 ones I have in my inventory right now:  Moglord Axe,  Serrated Sacragon Spur and Dainashini.  What makes this weapon any different than the others? This weapons will become rare (unobtainable) after a week, so it's a good novelty  item for rare hunters. It doesn't have a special attack and has very high BTH (bonus to hit)

Witch Hunter
  

I don't see any reason to buy this armor for 13860 Z-Tokens.  It's an energy armor that has no distinctive advantage over Taladosian Robes. We have come to the point of the game's progress where all new mono-element armors are obsolete. More dual-element armors are needed, instead of these interchangeable, mono-element armors. Either that, or give these armors a unique SP attack built into them.
The art is great - I have nothing else do say.

Lucretia's Potions 

After grinding for the required ingredients for 20 minutes, I quickly checked the forums for  information each on potion; after doing so, I was extremely underwhelmed and I instantly stopped grinding for these potions.  These potions are simply not worth the time investment that's required to obtain each potion.

 




In the future, The Dead-Eye Straight potion seems like the only potion that would be useful. It adds a little bonus to your accuracy.

Maybe these potion are just here to just lay the foundation and see what's probable in the future? They can always expand and add more potions.

Undead Archer: A New Darkness Pet! New Potions Coming Soon?

The "Saving Lucretia" quest has being updated, with new artwork; higher level enemies and a new reward shop!  All the enemies are pretty easy! Their primary element is darkness, so just tank up in your high darkness defense gear and breeze through them all.

 The reward is this darkness pet:

This would be cool, if only we didn't have a barrage of darkness pets already. It's still better than the reward we originally got for this quest. You remember that old reward, right? The big nothing?! Today's release was nothing but a teaser for the new potions that are getting released in the future.  At this time, we only have HP and MP potions.   Not only will these two potions get redesigned, but we have also been told that there will be some new additional potions being added to the game!  As of yet, no spoilers on these new potions have been revealed ... yet.


Here's a few speculations/ ideas I have for potions:


SP Potion:  Gives you between 100-200 SP back.

Exploding Potion:  A potion that you can throw at your opponent to cause damage to them

Status effect potions:  These can inflict status effects like freezing and paralysing

Accuracy potions:  Gives you more BTH (bonus to hit)

Stat potions:  Potions that increase your stats temporary, for the duration of the battle.  


 Maybe ... *takes a deep breath* .... maybe they can add some potions that cost Z-Tokens?  I really hope not, but it is a possibility, I guess.

Is the END stat getting nerfed?

I keep hearing that the END (endurance) stat point is getting weakened, when in fact, it's being amplified... well, kind of.  Let me explain:   the END update will increase the base HP the player receives.  So, hypothetically speaking, pretend you have 0 END - after the update, you have more END than you did before.  You probably know this, but when you increase your level, your base HP and MP increases.

Now, you're going to get you less HP for each stat point you have trained in  END, but with the base HP increase, you should still have more HP than what you started with. I currently have 150 END, which gives me 2125 HP.  I am expecting to have around 2500 HP after the update.

I wonder if the monsters will have less HP, or more HP after this update?  I really hope they make battles more challenging and not easier.  Read More →

Lt. Lore's Shield: A Captain America Spoof!

Out of all the updates in Adventure Quest today, this new shield is the only thing that sparked my interest.
 Lt. Lore's Shield is a boomerang shield, which is very reminiscent of the one used by Captain America.

Like the Horo-Show Void Vindicator, it has  -25% to ice,  but Void Vindicator has an SP draining attack that gives you SP back after you successfully block an attack.  Lt. Lore's Shield  casts a strong ice attack when you click onto the shield; this attack costs 361SP.

This is a nice little gimmicky shield and I am going to keep in my active inventory just because of the uniqueness and the fun I get out of throwing my shield at my opponent.   Will it be useful in the future? Probably not, but it is certainly fun to use.  Read More →

Deleted my Twitter.

How can all you people put up with all these adverts and spam?  That site is just a clutter of spam, with almost no real communication between people.  I also don't see how you can discuss something meaningful in two sentences. Regardless, I have proudly deleted my account. 

Using Facebook makes me feel too conspicuous and exposed to the world.  Fill in my full name, address and education history? Yeah right. This is a criminal's gold mine.  I don't like sites where my personally information is available for everyone to see.  The smart thing would be to use fake details, but why waste the effort?  Facebook is a dumping ground for links and spam, where nothing productive is ever produced.

Think I am  paranoid about these criminals on Facebook and it's all in my head?  I watch the news and I hear all the stories about them -  I also get messages like this on a daily basis:

Adventure Quest Memories

 Adventure Quest Auctions?!

Remember when you could auction your items for gold?  You heard me correctly!  There used to be a website where could buy and sell your items for gold.  Unfortunately,   this website quickly became abandoned after it was eating up too much of the AQ staff's time.  This auction was not automatic and they had to manually perform each trade from accessing the game's database.

No stat un-trainer?

Imagine not being able to untrain any of your stat points.  Once you've trained your stats, you could no longer change them.  When you first start playing the game, you usually put your stats points anywhere, without fully knowing what each stat does.   A lot of players used their first character has a testing ground and would later create a second character to assign their desired stats accordingly.


Golden Set.

This set is now called the "Communicant Set.'" It was the first ever uber/ master-crafted set in game. 


Dragon Hand.

In around 2004, this weapon  was accidentally put into Yulgar's store for about half an hour.  Only a few people managed to snatch up this item before the staff noticed this error and took it out the store.
At the time, this item was immensely strong.  In terms of damage,  it surpassed every other item in the game.  This error produced an uproar from the players on the forums, resulting in the forums having to be shutdown for a few days.  It was later added as a donation item - then later added into the Z-token shop.

You know that you can upgrade your account to a Guardian by paying real life money, right? Well, if you did that multiple times, you could revive some great perks within the game.

Yearly Gift Boxes
 

Every year, these gift boxes are released and opened at the end of each year.  Many people think that they're exclusively for Guardians.  In 2007, any player could buy the  gift boxes, even Adventurers!
  
Remember Avalanche Extreme? The gift box spell from 2005? This was put into the Frostval shop on the world map, thus enabling Adventurers to purchase it.

Zombie Master Set.

Zombie Heart

After waiting for many years, Adventurers finally have a -10 darkness misc item in their grasp! The level 135 and level 145 versions both offer -10 to darkness.  My Adventurer is very out-dated; this will certainly modernise it a bit.  The misc item also offers  +10 Bleed Resist and +10 Fear Resist.   I don't know of any enemies that attack with these status effects, thus resulting in these resists being useless.   I wouldn't recommend buying it if you're a Guardian.


Zombie-Tested Axe Master Armor

This armor currently offers the best wind resistance in the game:  40% Wind.
 Buy it now!  It's going rare soon!  It also has some fantastic art!  It doesn't have a built-in SP attack, like most new armors, but it doesn't really matter. However, it does gain +6 BTH (bonus to hit) if you're wielding an axe.


Zombie Axe Master Shield 

 It offers -21 wind and -21 darkness.   It receives an extra +5 to blocking when you have an axe equipped.
 The extra +5 to blocking is pretty much useless.

WraithZard 

This wind pet has a chance of preventing your opponent from doing Lucky Strikes in their attacks.  This is a very interested concept.   It also does high wind damage.


Zombie Master Axe 

When you kill enemies with this weapon, you can  absorb their souls.   Doing this gives you an extra + 10% damage boost.  Even with the damage boost, it still isn't that impressive.  In my humble opinion,  Rx for Destruction is a much better melee wind weapon.  Rx for Destruction  has a 20% rate special that can paralyse your opponent.

Exhume 

 This spell element-seeks between Wind and Darkness damage.

It has a nice animation - that's all I can say.  I've stopped using spells a long time ago.

New faces for the new year.

Happy new year and all the other usual formalities!   

This new face just came out to celebrate the new year. It's currently in Warlic's shop for 500 Z-Tokens and will be available until January 14th.   As this face is kind of ugly looking and just a novelty item, I'll be giving it a miss.   Feel free to buy it if you like having light bulbs around your head

Of course, the opening of the gift boxes got delayed.  They never actually open on new year's day like they are advertised to do so.  The gift delivery counter is currently on 36% completion;  I estimate them to be open on Saturday or Sunday.   I  never fully understood while we deliver gifts, when we already have the gift boxes in our inventories.  What are we actually delivering to these houses? It's fun, so who cares?  It does make people more eager to see what's inside them when they prolong the opening of them.

Anyone made any new year's resolutions?  I have a few:  I want to persuade myself to go back to college to learn art or computer graphics.  My biggest weakness is that I don't have an ounce of  artistic talent.  It'll be a good perk to be able to draw Manga style images.  I also want to produce a flash game of good quality.  None of the games I've created so far have really been that great.

A few trivial resolutions:  I want to create my gift box video for Adventure Quest, and I want to do that commentary video that I said I'll make.

Does the majority hate difficult games?

 There really isn't new in Adventure Quest that's worth talking about. I'll make regular posts when there are things to talk about. 


Before making YouTube videos, I used to make online Java Games.  They weren't exactly masterpieces, but regardless, I am proud of what I accomplished with them.  Most the games are Sonic clones or spin-off games.  I find that the games work best when using Google Chrome.

The site is named Sonic Black because I am a huge fan of "Sonic" and the "Ninja Gaiden Black"  game. The site is an obvious combination of two names.   

Something I've noticed from the feedback from the games:  the harder the game was, the more disliked it would be.  If the game is easy, then it'll get positive feedback.  People tend to blame their inadequacy to beat a game on the actual game itself, rather than to try and learn how the game's mechanics work and to learn from their mistakes.  This is clearly evident when your watch "Let's Play" videos on YouTube. I'd say around 90% of them are by idiots that scream at screen and rage like  psychopaths whenever they get killed/defeated in a game.   If you die in a game... maybe it's.... um... your fault? 

So if you ever plan on making  your own game, make sure it's an easy game.  Difficult games rarely ever become popular.  The "Adventure Quest" team were very smart in making "Adventure Quest Worlds" into a very basic game that anyone can play.

What did PUREvil get for Christmas? (It was hard write this title with a straight face)

Two people asked me this, so prepare yourself for this rather un-compelling post. The cool thing being, them two will probably never visit this site to read the post.

I revived a PSP game called Disgaea.  I knew this game was extremely difficult to play, but wow! I endorse developers making their games a challenge, but you get threw into the deep end as soon as you start the game. It's like Final Fantasy Tactics, with the difficulty put up about ten  notches. A game I'll surely go back to in a few weeks... months... years...    


 To put the mind at ease, I also got the Xbox 360 game called Bullet Soul;  A Bullet Hell game.   I have an acquired taste these kind of games. It's brutally difficult, but it's so much fun at the same time. :D


You have to dodge all them blue dots on the screen.

Something that may interest you more: I  now own an HD camera! I just hope the sound recorder on it  is adequate.  I hated using the Xbox Live headset with its rubbish sound quality. I used to have to speak really loud for it to pick up any sound.   I hope this camera will be good for my future videos.   It's a shame that it has an internal battery that cannot be changed. 

The rest of my gifts were just clothes and stuff - nothing worth talking about.
